Sigiriya Rock fortress

Sigiriya Rock Fortress is one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic historical and cultural attractions. Rising dramatically about 200 metres above the surrounding green landscape, this ancient rock fortress offers a fascinating combination of history, nature, and breathtaking views.

Built during the reign of King Kashyapa, Sigiriya was once a royal palace and fortified city. Today, visitors can explore the remains of the ancient palace, beautiful landscaped gardens, ponds, water gardens, and impressive rock carvings. Along the climb, you can also see the famous Sigiriya frescoes and the enormous Lion’s Paws, which mark the entrance to the upper fortress.

The climb to the summit involves a series of steps, but the experience is well worth the effort. Once you reach the top, you are rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding forests, villages, and countryside. Sigiriya is a must-visit destination for travellers interested in Sri Lanka’s ancient history, culture, architecture, and natural beauty.
